A Little Attitude Shift That Will Make Budgeting (and everything else) a Whole Lot Easier.

When starting and running a business, there can be a lot of expenses, a lot of shiny new apps and software, a lot of things to eat away at your profit. And at the same time those things can help streamline your processes and support your business and real, substantial ways. The same goes for how we spend our time. As an owner, there will be a million different priorities and directions you can go. Some will help you build your best business and life and others will have you spinning your wheels. In both instances, best way to know what is helping and what is hurting is to have clear goals outlined and to track your spending or your time well.

Goals remind you where you are headed. Its really easy to get off track if you don't have a clear destination in mind. Annual goal setting with quarterly check-ins are a priority for me.

Good business financials and a good time tracking system will give you the other half of the coin. If growing your social media following or hiring an assistant made your goal list, but you all of your money or time is tied up in tasks or expenses that don't get you there, then its time to make some adjustments. And you can feel good about investing time and money in the things that help you achieve your goals because that is often a necessary step to moving forward.

Mindset is key here. Instead of saying "I can't afford that" or "I'm to busy for this" simply reframe it by saying "This is no longer in line with my goals". Or "I am investing time/money now to help me reach my goal because this is my priority." That makes it easy to change direction or let go of things that are no longer serving you so you can focus on the things that are!
